FAQs

General Questions

  • We start with a consultation where you share your story idea and goals. Based on that, we recommend a service package that fits your needs. From there, we move into writing, illustration, or translation, with built-in review points along the way.

  • Timelines vary depending on the scope. A short story edit might take 1–2 weeks, while a full children’s book with illustrations may take several months. We’ll provide an estimated timeline before we begin, but please note these are estimates only—projects may take longer depending on revisions, complexity, and client response times.

  • Yes. Many clients come to us with only a rough idea, outline, or early draft. Whether you’re brand new or building a series, we’ll help shape your concept into a complete story and guide you every step of the way.

  • Our specialty is children’s books and book illustration. If your project falls outside that but you feel our style is a fit, reach out and we’ll let you know if we can take it on.

  • We work on picture books, early readers, and chapter books. Each project is tailored to the developmental level you’re targeting.

  • Yes. While we don’t publish on your behalf, we prepare your files and guide you through platforms like Amazon KDP or IngramSpark. Your manuscript and illustrations will be professionally formatted and ready to upload, so you can confidently move forward with publishing.

  • Yes. We provide a complimentary consultation to discuss your project, answer questions, and recommend the best service package.

  • Yes. If the set packages don’t match what you need, we can create a custom quote. Whether it’s only illustrations, just story development, or another specific piece, you can choose the support that fits your project.

  • We primarily communicate through email so everything stays clear, organized, and easy to reference. Drafts and files are shared in Google Drive, and you’ll receive updates at agreed checkpoints. If a project truly requires a call, we can arrange one—but email keeps things efficient and moving smoothly.

  • Yes. Every project includes a clear agreement outlining scope, deliverables, payment terms, and ownership rights. This ensures transparency and gives you full control of your finished work.

  • Absolutely. All client work is treated as private and confidential.

  • We believe quality takes time, so we don’t typically accept rush timelines. In some cases, an accelerated project may be possible for an additional fee, depending on scope and availability. The best option is to reach out early so we can confirm the timeline together.

  • Yes. We work with clients internationally. Communication is handled via email, and files are shared digitally.

  • Yes. We provide guidance on next steps such as formatting, self-publishing platforms, and marketing resources, though these services may be quoted separately.

Pricing & Payments

  • For smaller projects, payment is split into 50% deposit to begin and 50% upon completion. For larger, longer projects, we use milestone payments—typically 25% at four key stages—so progress and payments stay aligned. All payments are processed securely online.

  • Yes. For larger projects, milestones or installment payments can be arranged. This will be discussed during the proposal stage.

  • If a project requires an accelerated timeline and we’re able to accommodate it, an additional rush fee may apply.

  • Invoices are issued once we agree on your project scope and contract. The initial invoice will include your deposit (50% for small projects or 25% for milestones). Subsequent invoices are sent at each milestone or upon completion, depending on your payment plan.

Late Fees, Taxes & Discounts

  • Yes. Invoices are due by the stated date to keep projects on track. A 2% fee is added if payment is past due, increasing to 5% if unpaid after 7 days. Work may be paused until payment is received, and final deliverables are released only once the project is fully paid. For invoices significantly overdue, additional action may be taken as outlined in your contract.

  • All quoted prices are project fees only. Sales tax may apply if required by law in your location. Payment processor fees (e.g., PayPal international transfer fees) are not included in your quote and are the client’s responsibility.

  • All projects are billed in U.S. dollars (USD). If you’re paying from outside the U.S., your bank or payment provider will handle the exchange rate. Please note that any currency conversion fees are the responsibility of the client.

  • No. To keep pricing fair and consistent for all clients, we don’t offer discounts. Instead, we provide clear package options and payment plans to make projects manageable.

Copyright & Usage Rights

  • Scriptwell Studio retains copyright to all creative work by default. Clients receive a license to use the work for their agreed project once final payment is made.

    • Illustration: A commercial license for your specific project (e.g., book cover, children’s book, marketing). Scriptwell Studio always keeps copyright to protect brand consistency. Exclusive rights are available only at a premium rate.

    • Writing (ghostwriting): The client receives full copyright and ownership of the text once payment is complete. Scriptwell Studio does not take credit for ghostwritten work.

    • Translation: The translator holds copyright by default. Clients receive an exclusive license for publishing their book. Credit is required unless otherwise agreed.

  • No. Use is limited to the scope outlined in your license or contract. For example, illustrations may be used for the agreed project but not resold, sublicensed, or altered for other purposes without permission.

  • No. Licenses are non-transferable. You may not resell, sublicense, or distribute the work outside of your agreed project without Scriptwell Studio’s written permission.

  • No. The artwork, text, or translations may not be altered, remixed, or fed into AI platforms without Scriptwell Studio’s written permission. This ensures brand consistency and protects the integrity of the work.

  • Yes. Scriptwell Studio reserves the right to display completed work in portfolios, marketing, and promotional materials unless otherwise agreed in writing.

  • Exclusive rights (full ownership and no credit to Scriptwell Studio) are available only at a significantly higher fee and must be arranged in advance.

Refunds & Cancellations

  • No. Deposits are always non-refundable, as they secure your place in our schedule and cover project setup.

  • Payments already made (deposits or installments) are non-refundable once work has begun. You will receive all work completed up to the amount you’ve paid for, but no refunds are issued. Future unpaid installments will not be billed.

  • No. Once final files are delivered, all payments are final.

Writing Service

Writing Revision

  • As the client, you receive full copyright and are credited as the sole author once payment is complete. Scriptwell Studio does not take credit for ghostwritten projects. If you prefer a co-writing or “with/by” credit arrangement, that can be discussed and priced separately.

  • For editing, proofreading, and book development, you already own the text. Scriptwell Studio provides creative and technical support, but copyright remains yours.

  • Yes. Ghostwriting is full ownership and completely private by default. As the client, you hold all rights and full credit, and Scriptwell Studio does not showcase ghostwritten work in any portfolio or marketing.

  • Yes. By default, Scriptwell Studio may showcase anonymized before-and-after samples from editing and development projects in the portfolio. If you prefer complete privacy, that can be arranged. Please note that a privacy option may affect pricing since it limits the ability to share work samples.

  • Revisions depend on the package you choose:

Basic packages include 1 round of revisions to polish your draft.

Mid to premium packages include up to 2 rounds of revisions for deeper refinement.

Additional revisions beyond those included can be arranged at an hourly or per-round rate. Major changes to the project direction are considered new work and will require a separate quote.

  • Scriptwell Studio focuses on writing, editing, and development. We don’t handle publishing or marketing directly, but we do provide a step-by-step guide with resources to help you navigate self-publishing and basic book promotion. This guide is included with premium packages and available as an add-on for other projects.
